Worked out with the same factors the converter above uses.
Length is the most-searched category, and nearly all of it comes from the collision between metric and imperial. The good news is that since 1959 that collision has been settled with exact numbers: the international yard and pound agreement fixed the inch at exactly 25.4 millimetres, no more and no less. Everything else follows: the foot is 12 inches (0.3048 m), the yard 3 feet (0.9144 m) and the mile 1,760 yards (1,609.344 m).
Before that agreement the American and British inches were not quite the same length, which caused real trouble in precision work. Only one niche exception remains: the US survey foot used in American land surveying, officially retired in 2023. For any ordinary use, the factors on this page are exact by definition, not rounded approximations.
The nautical mile deserves a separate mention: it is exactly 1,852 metres, and that is not an arbitrary number but one minute of arc along a meridian. That is why shipping and aviation still use it — a nautical mile is directly one minute of latitude on the chart.

Frequently asked questions
How many centimetres are in an inch?
Exactly 2.54 centimetres. That is not a rounding: since 1959 the inch has been defined as exactly 25.4 millimetres, so nothing is lost in the conversion.
How do I convert feet and inches to metres?
Turn the feet into inches (×12), add the loose inches, and multiply by 0.0254. So 5 ft 9 in is 69 inches, which is 1.7526 m. In the tool you can do it in two steps using the swap button.
Why isn't a nautical mile the same as a mile?
Because they measure different things. The statute mile (1,609.344 m) descends from the Roman mile; the nautical mile (1,852 m) is one minute of arc along a meridian, which makes it useful for navigating with a chart.
